I was pleased to see that Lucidea was named to the KMWorld 100 Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management 2023.
According to KMWorld, the list includes “organizations with pioneering solutions and notable modifications to existing products, and those that are just plain interesting.” Following is the description included in the article:
Lucidea supplies purpose-built software solutions—including knowledge management systems, integrated library systems, museum collections management software, archives collections management software, and electronic resource management software—that make it easy to collect, organize, and exchange knowledge assets through one venue, from anywhere, at any time.
I delivered my first webinar for Lucidea in January 2016. Since then, I have delivered 30 more webinars, written over 200 blog posts, published two books for Lucidea Press, and signed hundreds of copies of those books at KMWorld and SLA conferences with Lucidea. They have been a wonderful partner, allowing me to present and write about knowledge management topics that matter to me without any pressure to promote their software solutions. I have always been impressed with their commitment to educating, informing, and empowering their clients.
The Five Cs of Knowledge Management
My latest book for Lucidea Press is The Five Cs of KM. The 5 Cs are Capture, Curate, Connect, Collaborate, and Create.
Capture includes collecting documents, presentations, spreadsheets, records, processes, software source code, images, audio, video, and other files that can be used for innovation, reuse, and learning.
Curation is taking existing information and making it more useful. This includes better organizing it, making it more findable, and making it easier to use.
Connection supports the demand side of knowledge. It enables demand-driven or just-in-time knowledge management. It is a necessary complement to capture, which provides the supply side of knowledge. There are three types of connection important for knowledge management: people-to-people, people-to-content, and content-to-content.
Collaboration is interacting with peers and colleagues to exchange ideas, share experiences, work together on projects, and solve problems. Work teams, project teams, and communities need consistent ways to share their knowledge, coordinate their activities, and communicate with one another.
Creation includes inventing and innovating new concepts, approaches, methods, techniques, products, services, and ideas that can be used for the benefit of people and organizations.
Lucidea’s KM Solutions
On the occasion of the KMWorld recognition, I would like to highlight two of Lucidea’s knowledge management offerings and how they relate to The Five Cs.
Presto enables knowledge curators and creators in information-intensive organizations of all sizes and budgets to create a single venue for creating, capturing, finding, and sharing organizational knowledge resources, no matter where they originate. Fundamentally, Presto makes it easy to connect people with the information they need, so they can spend less time searching. The Presto platform provides powerful knowledge management capabilities married with user collaboration, including commenting, rating, and sharing options.
PrestoWorks offers next generation knowledge curation. It combines the best of both worlds: a database management system and a text retrieval system. This combination delivers powerful, flexible benefits, enabling structured sharing of knowledge throughout an organization.
